Real Appeal® Program Overview

Updated on July 29, 2026

Real Appeal is based on clinically proven programs that help people lose weight and keep it off. It’s a practical, real-life approach to weight loss, backed by 20 years of scientific research, and customized to each participant’s schedule and lifestyle.

At this time, there are two Real Appeal programs:

Eligibility for these programs depends on which programs your employer is participating in. Once you’ve enrolled online in the Real Appeal program, you’ll select a day of the week and time for your weekly online sessions. Be sure to select a session that works for your schedule, so that every week, on the same day and time, you’ll be able to join a team of participants and your Real Appeal Coach for a live group session. Real Appeal Weight Loss Support sessions are 30 minutes long, and Real Appeal Diabetes Prevention sessions are 1 hour long.

With your group, you’ll get practical information from your Coach. Then, they will lead a discussion where the team collaborates and shares ideas on how to apply the lifestyle changes, tips, and strategies to everyday life.

After you’ve attended your first live session with your Coach, you’ll receive your Success Kit, which includes all the Real Appeal tools you need to start losing weight and become a healthier you. You have access to the Real Appeal program for an entire year, and as long as it’s covered by your health insurance, it is offered to you at no additional cost.

Science Behind Real Appeal

Real Appeal is built on scientific principles and extensive clinical research proven effective in making positive health impacts toward reducing obesity and preventing diabetes. Specifically, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and Look AHEAD (Action for Health in Diabetes) studies, both long-term randomized clinical trials considered landmark studies in lifestyle modification for diabetes prevention. Real Appeal tested its model with more than 670 employees at a large employer, and after 24 weeks—less than halfway through the 52-week Real Appeal program—more than 70% of the at-risk participants lost weight, and 37% achieved the target weight loss of 5% or greater. According to the CDC and NIH study, with lifestyle changes and a modest weight reduction of 5% or more, a person with prediabetes can prevent or delay the onset of diabetes by 58%.

Real Appeal used the results of these studies to create personalized, sustainable weight-loss and weight-management programs. Live expert Real Appeal coaches tailor the program to each participant’s individual needs and support them by delivering practical information and tips they can apply in real life. The program is designed to help consumers lose weight and keep it off, and may help prevent or delay the onset of diabetes and other weight-related health conditions.
